Over the course of our involvement at the Bennadrove Landfill Site near Stornoway, which spans well over 20 years, Phoenix has designed and installed many updates and additions to the leachate treatment facility at the landfill site. In this case study, we report on our latest work.

The landfill site has for some years now only accepted residual waste after comprehensive recycling of both the organic and the inorganic content in the community Materials Recovery Facility (MRF) on the island. Nevertheless, although the waste input volumes are small the community seeks to protect the local peatland ecology to the highest standard and uses sophisticated leachate collection and treatment technology to ensure the protection of the environment.

Our involvement began in the Autumn of 1993 when Phoenix Engineers commissioned a 130 m3/day sequencing batch reactor (SBR) aeration plant for watercourse discharge.
