We commissioned Phoenix Engineering to undertake the fabrication of eight pontoon guide columns for use in the Walney Off Shore Wind Farm Enabling Works.
Having previously worked with Phoenix on a number of leachate treatment plants I was confident in their ability to deliver a quality product on time but also in their technical knowledge and willingness to challenge a design if they could suggest a better way to do it. Phoenix Engineering was also able to offer us a complete audit trail for our quality and environmental records as they have ISO 9001 and 14001 accreditations.
During the fabrication phase we were kept up to date with programme dates photographs which were very useful not just for us but also our client Dong Energy. Phoenix raised various issues with the design in a constructive manner and at an early stage to give adequate time for the clients’ designer to consider alternative proposals and respond without causing delay. Additional works were also added to the scope at competitive rates and were delivered within the original time frame. During the installation we encountered no issues with the quality of workmanship with all the A frames built within the specified tolerances. This was made all the more impressive considering that each of the eight frames were slightly different to meet the curvature of the quay wall.
We would definitely consider Phoenix Engineering again for steel fabrication works of this or of a more complex nature. They were extremely professional, knowledgeable and efficient in the delivery of a quality product
